Kyrkogårdsförvaltningen new supplier to Open District Heating

December 21, Fortum Värme signed a new agreement with Kyrkogårdsförvaltningen for Råcksta Crematorium regarding recycling of surplus heat by Open District Heating. The new agreement, a so-called Open Spot contract is making Råcksta Crematorium a new supplier to Open District Heating.

Råcksta Crematorium is since many years supplier of surplus heat to Fortum Värme, which today is seen as very natural. It was different in the 90s when Kyrkogårdsförvaltningen in Stockholm suggested to connect Råcksta Crematorium to the heating network. Former Birka Energi said no at first just to avoid possible negative reactions from the public. But after that, the ethical question matured and the church expressed themselves positive. Focus was instead on the environmental benefits of the utilization of heat from the crematorium.

The new agreement will enter into force at the turn of the year. The recovery of heat through Råcksta Crematorium will, annually provide district heating to up to 400 apartments in Västerort.
